In this position, Netherlands try to make game against Crotia.
Then Malen starts to close to Dumfries and Perisic follows him immediately.
When the ball goes to Malen, as you can see, Perisic closes to Malen too.
This is the exact moment that Malen takes the ball from Dumfries. We can see clearly that Perisic just closed to Malen from his behind. In the next scene, you will see that Malen will pass the ball to his teammate and after making a one-two, he will be completely free.
After Malen passed the ball, as you can see, Perisic stayed forward and couldn’t follow Malen’s movement. It’s because in one-two passing situations, if the defender goes to the player who is just about to make a one-two, with an intention to press to the player, then when attacking player passes the ball ( like in this situation Malen), attacking player can receive the ball all free. I will explain one-two situations’ logics in one of my next videos.
